Puppy & Teenage Dog Courses
Puppy Course
With Tanja Karpela
How do you start training a small puppy? What skills should the puppy learn first? How to get a puppy motivated, enthusiastically and happily training with its handler and only focusing on its handler. How should the puppy get used to different environments and be taught handling? We practice these things together in our puppy course. The group is a small group and we proceed with the terms and conditions of each puppy safely and consistently.
The course starts with a theory lecture (please, join the lecture without the dog), which deals with dog training, useful basic skills and the dog's learning, memory and good handling skills.

Basic Education Courses
Basic Obedience Training
With Tanja Karpela
A course recommended for recent graduates from the Puppy & Young Dog Courses. Dog training is easier and more successful the better the dog's basic obedience works in everyday life. Basic obedience means that the dog knows certain basic things well and those basic things have been taught to the dog in such a way that the dog's motivation to cooperate with the handler is strong. Good basic obedience also guarantees a more functional everyday life, creates a balanced and trusting relationship with the dog, provides effective and safe methods of operation for various situations, and creates the basis for future training opportunities in the field of hobbies, competitions or work tasks.

Leash Training Course
With Tanja Karpela & Lena Mertens
Does your dog pull on a leash and do outdoor walks consist of running after a speeding dog on the third leg? Does your dog bark at other dogs when passing or does it jump too enthusiastically towards a passing dog? Or does your dog shy away from both strange dogs and people when passing? Without pulling on the leash and successfully overtaking - the course provides snacks for moderate and relaxed outdoor activities. The course is suitable for both young dogs and adults as well as elderly dogs. We start the exercises taking into account each dog's individual starting point in such a way that the dog does not get stressed by disturbances such as the presence of other dogs. Only as the dog's skills progress do we gradually increase the disturbances. The course starts with a one-hour lecture (dogs are not taken to the lecture). During the first hour, we go through e.g. causes of passing problems and pulling on a leash and appropriate approaches to them. Learning and practical exercises take place with joy and enthusiasm, with the desired behaviour and strengthening the relationship between the owner and the dog. In the course, you practice the skills of walking without pulling on a leash, and you get to overtake safely in real overtaking situations, because in addition to the instructor, you have a handler with an assistance dog at your disposal, so you can practice overtaking with several different dogs.

Stress and anxiety reduction: Dogs can have particular stressors (thunder, separation, bicycles) and a massage can help alleviate some tension and help your dog relax.
Healing: A massage can be recommended by vets after an injury or surgery to help with rehabilitation, pain reduction and keeping scar tissue to a minimum.
Improving organ function: Massages help with circulation, can decrease blood pressure, strengthen immune systems, aid in digestion, and encourage deep breathing. All of which can promote a healthier dog!

Crossdogging
With Lena Mertens
Known as the "Bundesliga of Dog Clubs", this is a fun activity for you and your dog which allows you to compete with other Crossdogging teams from canine training schools in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The tasks change weekly and are made available to participating dog training schools by the company Crossdogging GbR.
Crossdogging involves circuit training in which two people work on each station. One person completes the given task as often as possible for two minutes, the other counts the number of runs. Then the team swaps and when both have completed the task, it goes on to the next of the 5 stations. The teams are not aware of forthcoming tasks until each training session. The tasks involve several different disciplines within dog sports. Sometimes tricky,
sometimes more athletic, from agility and retrieval to body language, circle training and tricks performed by the dogs - there will be something for everyone.

Detection Course (10 weeks)
With Tanja Karpela
In the course, dog will learn how to indicate a target or a target scent, and you will seek certainty and problem-solving ability in challenging places. The exercises of the course are carried out according to the level of each dog.
The course is suitable for both beginners and more advanced dog handlers, and the exercises can be used for both detection work and tracking.
A well-motivated dog shows eagerness and persistence in the detection work, but is still able to perform the search in a focused manner, without getting too excited. In this course, you will learn to find a balanced search motivation so that the enthusiasm does not stress the dog too much.
This course is aimed at dogs who want to build search routines to support detection indoors. In the course, we think about the search strategies of different indoor search areas and practice the application of the strategy in practice. The course strengthens the challenges of each dog individually, such as indication, difficult hiding places or motivation.
DETECTION 1 - BUILDING A SOLID INDICATION (4 WEEKS)
DETECTION 2 - BUILDING MOTIVATION (3 WEEKS)
DETECTION 3 - ENSURE DETECTION INDOORS (3 WEEKS)

Fundamentals of Scent Discrimination
With Tanja Karpela
Scent discrimination is an essential and necessary part of the learning process of scent work. Line-up work is its own skill, where the basics of scent discrimination and detection work are practiced in a controlled environment.
Planning, implementing and analysing line-up exercises and maintaining scent records are skills that every sniffer handler must master. The course provides basic skills for the successful implementation of accurate odour discrimination. The course is suitable for dogs who already know how to indicate a target scent. The cooperation between the handler and the dog in the detection work is as important as the dog working independently. It is a good idea to practice the balance of these skills at the beginning on the scent discrimination course, from which they will later be transferred to practical detection. The scent discrimination track is a versatile tool that can also be used to teach other skills than just learning the target smell. In this course we practice e.g. skills related to empty searching areas, multiple finds, and blind search.
LINE-UPS 1 (5 weeks)
SCENT DISCRIMINATION 2 - HANDLING THE DOG IN DETECTION WORK (3 weeks)
SCENT DISCRIMINATION 3 - DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS OF SCENT DISCRIMINATION (3 weeks)
EXAM (DIPLOMA) (1 week)

Tracking Course
With Tanja Karpela
In this course, you practice the basic skills of accurate tracking using objects. Effective sniffing, sure object indication, a focused and motivated dog and effective cooperation between the dog's handler create a strong foundation for smooth tracking. The course is suitable for both beginner dog handlers and those who are already interested in tracking. Also suitable for dogs whose desire to chase overrides object motivation. The basic skills taught in the course can be applied to all forms of tracking in which people are tracked. A dog that works precisely solves the corners independently and with concentration, without the handler needing to intervene in the work by, for example, braking. Objects are useful in training. In the course, you will practice different situations of spotting the track and seek certainty in determining the direction of the track.
WEEK 1: LECTURE
WEEK 2 AND 3 AND 4: INDICATION
WEEK 5 AND 6: HOW TO START ACCURATE TRACKING USING OBJECTS
WEEK 7 AND 8 AND 9: CORNERS
WEEK 10 AND 11: SPOTTING THE TRACK
WEEK 12: TRACKING

Nose Work
with Tanja Karpela
Welcome to the fun Nose Work course! K9 Nose Work is a hobby for dogs developed in the USA in 2008, where the dog's phenomenal sense of scent is used to identify and search for teachable scents. This fun nose work exercise was first developed to activate rescue dogs, but quickly spread as an interesting hobby available to all dog owners. Nose Work is suitable for all types of dogs and handlers, no special skills are required. Nose Work is also excellent for dogs that are sensitive to people and dogs. In this way, insecure dogs gain self-confidence as they learn to trust their nose. One of the principles of the sport is that it must be fun and comfortable for both dogs and people. There are no strict rules related to rewards or handling and the training methods are based on the use of positive reinforcement.
The course teaches the basic skills of the Nose Work hobby. The owner learns the basics of training a scent dog and the dog learns to identify and indicate the scent and to search the scent indoors. The course is suitable for beginners as well as for those already familiar with working with scents. The course starts with a lecture (do not bring your dog to the lecture).
