Kennel Cough & Summer!

Alert: Kennel Cough!

While your dog’s sneezing and sniffling may be seasonal allergies, we want to inform you that we have had a few confirmed cases of Kennel Cough making their rounds at Martha’s and around Luxembourg again. Two days ago, Martha & Friends was informed by a client that their dog was diagnosed with suspected Kennel Cough and since then we have been told of a couple more dogs who were in contact with our infected pup, that they have also come down with the virus. As we insist that all the dogs in our care are duly vaccinated, any symptoms are therefore likely to be mild. However, as the virus is very contagious and early diagnosis can prevent further spread, we have replicated our info sheet we sent out last October when the whole of Luxembourg and the Rheinland Palatinate saw a widespread Kennel Cough Epidemic, so everyone can inform themselves and stay vigilant.

Kennel Cough (or Canine Tracheobronchitis) is a seasonal virus, akin to the human ‘flu, and we have heard that a few of the vets in the surrounding areas have reported seeing a sudden increase in cases. These seasonal viruses are why we at Martha & Friends insist on all clients having both the Bordatella Vaccination (mostly administered as a drop in the nostril of the dog) and the Parainfluenza Vaccination. Make sure to check with your vet to make sure your pup’s vaccinations are complete and up to date!
