Dog Ownership After Home Working Ends…

The pandemic has created new challenges for dogs and their owners. Social distancing requirements do not foster the basic need to develop and maintain social skills (like us humans) and being comfortable with new experiences and social interactions. Family dogs – especially young dogs, who have known nothing else – who are only accustomed to their unique environments and people, now have fewer opportunities to be exposed to different places, people, and activities. We have been seen more dogs with behavioral problems since the beginning of the pandemic.

Furthermore, dogs are now accustomed to their family members working from home, a situation which may well change in the coming months and once COVID-19 vaccination programs are completed. What happens when more “normal” working routines are adopted again? Many of our dogs (young and old!) at Martha & Friends Day Care now come to us 1-3 times a week to learn and practice their social skills, meet and play with new friends (which then have become regular groups), and in anticipation of when their owners return to the office. We focus on the development of well-adjusted and easy-to-get along with dogs, and it is our greatest pleasure to see how each day, “our” dogs improve and enjoy themselves in the care of our experienced team!
